Carmen Lidia

Founder and Executive Director of Significant U.

She founded Significant U at the age of 21 in 2011. Significant U is committed to serving as a catalyst for the next generation by being a voice that inspires conversations to empower action, sisterhood, and significance.

SU host an annual empowerment conference where the team provides the Fairy Godmother Project Boutique for hundreds of high school girls. SU is a fully volunteer-operated organization, Carmen’s passion and faith in the next generation is the fuel to Significant U.

In 2014, she received the SAISD STARR Award, and in 2015 was honored as a student success story by Café College at their HOORAY 50K. In 2017, she was awarded the Community Voice Award presented at the "Making a Mark on the World" Women's Awards, presented by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber. In 2019, she was the inaugural recipient of the Mija Award through the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas. She is honored by these acknowledgments but says her greatest reward is the joy she sees on a girl's face when she fits a girl into a dress.

Carmen believes the power of the future will be unleashed through relationships that brave authentic conversations between peers and different generations. Her hope is to grow the impact of Significant U and changing the world one voice at a time.

“I saw somebody who at such a young age had an extraordinary vision,” Prosper said. “It wasn’t just about collecting dresses; it was about using that as a reason to get young women in front of her so she could talk to them about important issues.”
